Microlight from Ince Blundell to Ince Blundell Via Ashcroft Farm and Chester.
Posted by: | CommentsA flight I made on a bit of a blustery day in May 2010, I started out from the Ince Blundell a microlight airstrip in the North West of England just north of the city of Liverpool, filming with my new HD camera, I basically circumnavigated the Liverpool Airport control zone clockwise, a distance of around 90 mls, The 1st town I fly over is Warrington, I was trying to get some footage of Warrington hospital, as my daughter works there, Unfortunately I forgot to film my landing at Ashcroft Farm, but the red trike on the ground which is mine is at Ashcroft a lovely airfield not far from Tarporley, After taking off from Ashcroft I fly over to the Peckforton Hills to have a look at Beeston Castle, located on top of the small hill, The day was a bit hazy hence the poor quality of the picture, from Beeston I route to pass over Hawarden Airfield at Chester where Airbus manufacture the Giant Airbus 380 wings, there was no ATC on duty that day so I just made blind calls on their app freq and passed over the ATZ at 2200ft QFE, You can see the narrow River Dee that runs very close to the factory where Airbus make and ship the completed wings on a barge under the very low bridges crossing the Dee on there way upto Mostyn docks a few miles further up the River Dee for there onwards journey to France by ship ready to be fitted to the rest of the Airbus Giant, If you look closely you can just see 2 Mig cold war fighter jets on the ground at Hawarden, not sure what they are doing there …

RC Trike – Ultralight Microlight Nanolight Rogallo Delta Flex Wing Electric Powered
Posted by: | Commentswww.micro-flight.com Mario I. Arguello’s latest Radio Controlled Trikes or also known as Ultralights, Nanolights, Microlights, or power hangliders, or delta Rogallo type aircraft. Flying Conditions in this video were not favorable, wind was too strong and irregular, but the model was tested and flown regardless. 2 Cell instead of 3 shifted the weight of the model slightly behind the CG and this too made the model abit of challenge to fly in the heavy wind. On a calm day this model is very easy and a joy to fly. The roots of MIA”s RC Trikes go back for close to 20 years from the time a first MIA RC Trike was developed and flown, a large 8ft High Aspect ratio wing powered by an astro Flight cobalt electric motor and 8 Cell Ni-CAD batteries. WOW ! have we come a long way since them. In 2002 a super ultralight MIA Trike called the Condor was developed and documented in RC Groups threads and also in MIA Micro FLIGHT’s site, having a super low wing loading and a unique MIA developed control system, which allowed for that model to be flow with superb control and ease. The same control is employed in MIA’s lates smaller lighter trikes. MIA larger RC Trikes are also controlled similar and also by weight shift, whcih this latter form of control is not that precise, especially during take-off and slow flight, but it mimics the real control of the real aircraft. Please stop by RC Groups forum, RC Universe Autogyro sections where many of MIA’s Autogyro and Trike developements and …
Ultralight Backpacking Fire Starter Blastmatch vs Sparkie
Posted by: | CommentsUltimate Survival Technologies Blastmatch vs Sparkie flint for Ultralight Backpacking. I own the Blastmatch from Ultimate Survival Technologies and have been eyeballing the new Sparkie since it hit REI. I actually even contacted US before the Sparkie hit the market back in Nov ’08. The Blastmatch isn’t exactly light. It often doesn’t make the cut into my backpack. I would be hard pressed to say it even qualifies for Ultralight Backpacking. The weight savings are definitely evident in the Sparkie when holding it along with the Blastmatch – What I’ve been wondering since I first saw the Sparkie is – How does the spark throw compare to the Blastmatch? Aside from a disappointing internal spring, the Sparkie has me sold. From here on out its going to be my bic mini and my Sparkie. The ergonomics are better in Ultimate Survivals new version and the weight difference is definitely noticeable from the old Blastmatch. There is little difference in the size of the spark each striker throws. Not large enough for me to keep my Blastmatch around. I like the one handed operation of the Ultimate Survival Sparkie. It is easier to strike than their Blastmatch is using just your index finger. If I was in a survival situation, I would prefer the Blastmatch. However, I would rather have it than not. I’m not certain I will have my Blastmatch on me at all times. The Sparkie does all I need it to and it’s tiny. I am super disappointed with the internal spring that is supposed to push the flint …
